What is this website?
This website is visually meant to be similar to other social bookmarking websites like Reddit and Digg.
Unlike those other websites, this one is geared towards scientists and is based off the fabulous Connotea database by Nature and their handy API.
Links are only counted if they point to DOIs, which tend to only be peer-reviewed papers or science editorials and the like.
How can I add bookmarks?
You will have to register at Connotea.
As you bookmark new cool papers at Connotea they will show up here.
We'll be working on migrating those capabilities here in time, but for now you will need to go there.
How does this work?
We will track papers that you and others submit to your Connotea databases.
The more heavily bookmarked and popular papers will naturally rise on the front page of HotCites.
Other Cool Connotea Tools?
Many individuals have made awesome tools with the Connotea database, you can go here to view them: Connotea Tools
Where are you going with this?
We would like to add some of the following capabilities: logins, chatting on articles, search capabilities, and other cool stuff.
First and foremost will be letting you login and post to your database from here, but this passive website is still of cool value.
Who made this?
This website was made by Mitch André Garcia in early March 2008, you can contact him here:
Why did you make this?
I'm suppose to talk about social bookmarking websites at the ACS conference at New Orleans in a few weeks and figured I better start getting to work on something to show. :)
